Susan Carolyn Barranger, 82, of Alliance Drive, passed away Sept. 1, 2005, at Seaside Health Center of Atlantic Shores Retirement Community. She was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Brantley, Ala., a daughter of the late Joel and Sue Knox Brown Saunders. Susan served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included garden club, bowling league and bridge. She was active in the women’s society of Christ United Methodist Church and was president of Young at Heart. Susan is survived by her husband, Harry Barranger Jr.; her son, Harry Frederick Barranger and wife Lisa of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Linda Barranger Sawyer and husband Robert of Raleigh, N.C.; her brother, David Saunders of Coursegold, Calif.; her sisters, Janice Hollis of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Margaret Hale of Prattville, Ala., and Evelyn Hansel of Kissimmee, Fla.; and four grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her brother, William Saunders. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Christ United Methodist Church, 1601 Bayview Blvd., Norfolk, with the Rev. Dan Abbot officiating. Interment will be private in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Personal condolences may be offered to the family online at www.woodlawngroup.com.
