David James Sawyer passed away on July 19, 2012. He was born in 1952 to Katherine and James David Sawyer in Sparta, Michigan. He and his wife Owvan made Las Vegas their permanent home in 1975. David was a highly decorated Veteran who served our country and retired with honors from the United States Air Force. He graduated from UNLV with a PhD and taught at CSN, he was also a highly respected team member at the City of North Las Vegas.

David was an honorable man who served his family and community. His wife Owvan was the true love of his life, as a devoted husband and father, his family was the most important element to him. He was a loyal friend to many, always willing to lend a helping hand when he could.
David enjoyed life, an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, he loved to laugh and approached everything with light humor.
He was a great man who will be missed dearly, He was survived by his wife Owvan, their eldest daughter Christian, daughter Natalie, and their youngest son James.

David and his wife Owvan now rest together at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City Nevada.
