Leona (Nonie) M. Scherf Baker, 87, of Maple Valley, WA passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 15th, 2014. She was born in Cohasset, Minnesota on May 1, 1926 the second of 5 children born to Lyle C. Scherf and Eula M. (Axtel) Scherf.

Nonie attended school in Cohasset. At age 15 she went to work at the local hospital as an aide. Later on she moved to California and worked as a nurses aid. She met Clifford Baker in Renton, WA in 1946. After he returned from military service they were married on March 8, 1947 in Renton, WA. They moved back to the Cohasset, Minnesota area shortly thereafter. Her first child Lynda was born there and later in 1948 they relocated back to Renton, WA where she would have 4 more children through a span of 11 years. She and her husband Cliff and children lived in Renton, WA for 27 years.

She moved with her husband to Maple Valley, WA in 1977. After Clifford retired in 1988 they started traveling in their RV to parts of the US , seeing the sights, visiting relatives and friends, camping, boating and fishing. They started wintering in Arizona in 1989 in their RV and ended up buying a home there. They continued to do so until 2012 after Nonie received a severe head injury suffered in a car accident in August of 2012. Nonie has been cared for at home by her family for a year and a half.

Nonie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and having lots of hanging baskets adorning her patio. She also loved to crochet and made many things for the family.

Nonie was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle & Eula Scherf, brothers Dean Scherf, Melvin Scherf, Lyle (Pete) Scherf, and daughter-in-law Carrie Baker and grandson Darrin Wells.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Clifford; children: Lynda (Albert) Weatherford, Gary Baker (Evonne Kruger), Vickie (Harold) Shamblin, Lori Anderson, Luanne Tourangeau; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; brother, Douglas Scherf, many sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Tahoma National Cemetery.
