Frank "Pat" Scherf, 70, of Springfield, died at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at his residence. Pat was born August 8, 1946 in Springfield, the son of Frank Henry and Mary Jane Patterson Scherf.

Pat graduated from Rochester High School in 1964 and was employed with the State of Illinois from 1966 to 2003. He also wrote the first accounting software for public aid. He enjoyed building and assembling things, including Legos, robots, pedal cars, and computers. Pat also enjoyed being involved in Sprint car racing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Penny Scherf; and infant grandson, Brandon Palmer.

He is survived by his son, Chris Scherf of Springfield; daughter, Mindy (husband, Brian) Palmer of Springfield; grandchildren, Lindsay Palmer, Joe Palmer, Ean Scherf, and Hannah Scherf, all of Springfield; former wife, Linda Scherf of Springfield; and sister, Michelle (husband, Kelly) Brown.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Ceremony and Gathering: 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, Springfield, IL, with Pastor Fred Prince officiating. A memorial gathering will follow from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
