Mrs. Henry Borchert, for 20 years a resident of Sycamore, committed suicide shortly after noon Sunday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Fraedrich, at 363 Harvester street while in a state of despondency.

The shock of her sudden death came as a stunning blow to her husband, daughter and family. She had not been ill, it is learned, and had been in good spirits of late except for occasional lapses into brooding over minor difficulties.

At about 12:10 p.m. Sunday she seized a small bottle of strychnine sulphate, a deadly poison which forces the respiratory system beyond human capacity, and swallowed it In the presence of Mrs. Fraedrich and Mr. Borchert.

Dr. C. E. Clark, who testified at the 5 o'clock coroner's inquest that afternoon, was summoned. His efforts to administer an antidote to the victim were frustrated by Mrs. Borchert, it is said. She died shortly before 12:30 o'clock. It was thought that a stomach pump might spare her life but it was impossible to manipulate against the will of the victim. The fatal dose was purchased here.

Mrs. Borchert, known to many here as a kindly woman, mother and neighbor on Harvester street and Mason Court during her life in Sycamore, had recently taken up her residence with Mrs. Fraedrich.

Minnie Scherf Borchert was born March 18, 1880 at Palatine and as a girl moved to Genoa community with her parents, Chris and Sophia Johnson* Scherf. When a young woman she was united in marriage to Paul Kruse of Elgin. Two children, Grace and Robert Kruse, the latter of DeKalb, were born to the union.

On Sept. 28, 1910, she was married to Henry Borchert of Sycamore. One son, Elmer, was born to them. They made their residence here where Mr. Borchert was employed in a local industry. For several years they lived on Mason Court, adjoining Alderman Horace Fothergill's residence.

Mrs. Borchert was charitable to all and has on many occasions assisted in practical nursing among her friends and neighbors. She was affiliated with the St. Paul church of Elgin.

She leaves to survive, her bereaved husband, Henry of Sycamore; two sons, Robert Kruse of DeKalb; Elmer Borchert of Sycamore; and one daughter, Mrs. Fraedrich of Sycamore.

One brother, Charles Scherf of Elgin is the lone survivor of four. Two sisters, Mrs. Charles Wewetzer and Mrs. Charles Baumgart, both of Elgin mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held from the Kebil Funeral parlors at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. They will be private, with no flowers, at her last request. Rev. H. S. Roblee will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood.

The coroner's jury, under the direction of Dr. R. P. Culver, late Sunday afternoon entered its verdict as suicidal death due to strychnine sulphate consumed. The inquest was conducted at the Kebil parlors.
