Wilma Elfrieda Hulda (Scherf) Glawe was born at home, rural Garnavillo, on January 23, 1933, to Chris and Lenora (Esmann) Scherf. She was baptized at the farm home on January 24, 1933. Wilma was a woman of great faith and strong family.

She peacefully passed away on June 13, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center. Wilma’s strong faith carried her through many hardships and difficult times and it is serving as a comfort for her family now as she is resting in Heaven with Loved Ones.

Wilma was united in marriage to Bernelle Valmah Glawe on December 14, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Seven children were born into this union and they farmed outside of St. Olaf before moving to town in 1964.

Wilma worked for the town of St. Olaf and at the Hardware Store. She cooked in the tavern. She also worked at Swiss Valley Farms in St. Olaf for 16 years.

She enjoyed serving God at Norway Lutheran Church by teaching Sunday school, serving as the Sunday School Superintendent, and with the Women of the Church. Wilma and Bernelle always had a huge garden and she enjoyed cooking and canning the produce.

Wilma earned the Governors Volunteer Award on June 17, 2014.

Wilma was an avid seamstress making over 200 quilts that many family and friends received. She selected a special gift for each new grandchild and new great grandchild from her many beautiful works.
