Eva Abel was born Dec. 29, 1919, in Lake Hester Township of McHenry County to Mike and Magdalyn (Feist) Schwan. She attended school in Karlsruhe and later a country school north of Karlsruhe.
She married Nick A. Abel on Oct. 19, 1937. They farmed west of Karlsruhe until Nick's death Feb. 7, 1976. She moved to Karlsruhe, where she worked with the school lunch program and at the Karlsruhe Senior Citizens Center. Eva lived in Velva before moving to Minot. She moved to the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva in April 2009.
She was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers organization and later St Leo's Catholic Church in Minot.
Eva spent her life devoted to her family, the family farm and her church. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She leaves many beautiful quilts for her family to enjoy.
Eva is survived by: her children, Bernadine (Phillip) Hancock, Antelope, Calif., Beatrice (Jim) Volk, Sumner, Wash., Nick (Loretta) Edgewood, Wash., Dennis (Linda), Bismarck, Larry (Jan), Williston, and Karen (John) Skowronek, Reno, Nev.; two sisters, Anne and Helen; and one brother, Donald. Eva also has 34 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six brothers; one sister; three sons, Jerome, Ronald and David; and two grandsons, Josh Abel and Michael Abel.
Funeral: Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation today, Oct. 9, from noon to 5 p.m., with the vigil prayer service today at 5 p.m., both at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Monday, at 2 p.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Karlsruhe.
