Inscription

WILLIAM LAUDER - The burial place of the family of LAUDER of LAUDER after its removal from Lauder Tower in 1598. It contains the ashes of WILLIAM LAUDER, and his wife ELIZABETH BELLENDEN of Broughton: of their son ANDREW LAUDER, and his wife JANET RAMSAY of Polton: of their son SIR JOHN LAUDER of Newington and Edington, first baronet of Fountainhall, who died in 1692; and his spouse Dame ISOBEL ELLIS of Mortonhall: of their son Sir JOHN LAUDER, Lord Fountainhall, second baronet, who died in 1722, and his spouse Dame JANET RAMSAY of Abbotshall, who died in 1686: and of their son Sir JOHN LAUDER, third baronet, who died in 1728, and his spouse Dame MARGARET SETON of Pitmedden: of their son Sir ALEXANDER LAUDER, fourth baronet, who died unmarried in 1730: of his brother Sir ANDREW LAUDER, fifth baronet, who died in 1769, his spouse, Dame ISOBEL DICK, Heiress of Grange, who died in 1758: of their son Sir ANDREW DICK LAUDER of Grange, and sixth baronet of Fountainhall, who died 16th December 1820 and his spouse Dame ELIZABETH BROUN of Johnstonburn, who died 20th January 1787: together with many of the issue of these several persons.
Also the ashes of GEORGE CUMIN, Esq of Relugas, great-grandson of Lord Fountainhall, who died 2d October 1804, whose spouse, SUSANNA JUDITH HALKETT of Hallhill, died at Regluas in Morayshire April 1829 and was interred in the family burial place at Edenkellie.
This plate was placed here by Sir Thomas Dick Lauder of Grange, and seventh baronet of Fountainhall, and his spouse Dame CHARLOTTE ANNE CUMIN, only child and heiress of the above George Cumin, Esq of Relugas: and here lies their daughter ELIZABETH who died 21 Aug 1814, aged 4 yrs and 4 months; and their daughter ISABELLA who died 20th February 1846 aged 24 yrs.
