NORTH OGDEN- David Clyde Shaw passed away on January 6, 2012.

Clyde was born July 3, 1926 in Washington D.C. He was the second of two children of David John and Elvera Worley Shaw.

Clyde, his sister and mother moved to Ogden, Utah in 1932. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1944 and soon after joined the Army during World War II.

He attended Weber State College until he began working for Defense Depot Ogden. Early in his employment he met and fell deeply in love with Shirley Brown. They were married January 24, 1948. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for 56 years until Shirley's death in June of 2004. They were blessed with four children, who they adored.

Clyde's civil service career provided him with the opportunity to enjoy managerial and supervisory positions. He retired from Defense Depot Ogden with 36 years of service, as Chief Systems Requirements Division, of the Defense Logistics Agency. Clyde also served with the US Army Reserves. He received a direct commission as an officer and served in various commands and staff positions. He retired in 1981 with the rank of Colonel.

In both careers, Clyde received many citations and awards, the highest of these were Exceptional Civilian Service Award from civil service and the "Legion of Merit" from the Army.

Clyde always had a strong desire to give of himself and serve others. He joined the North Ogden Kiwanis Club in 1971, so he could participate in helping to make his hometown a better place. He was past president and served for 20 years as secretary. He was instrumental in starting the Kiwanis "Hope of America Award" in Northern Utah and participated in this for 32 years. He also volunteered for 22 years with the charitable organization SHARE Inc.

Clyde was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he volunteered his time in various callings.

Clyde's hobbies included hunting, fishing and skiing, but his greatest passion was for golf. He and Shirley enjoyed many years of playing golf with family and friends at the Wolf Creek Resort. He often stated that he had never met a person he did not like on a golf course.

Clyde was a very devoted and loving husband, father, brother and friend to many. His greatest joy was anything related to his family.

He is survived by his children Dennis (Dianne) Shaw , Judy (Michael) Grover, Steven (Nancy) Shaw and Michael (Jana) Shaw. 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley, his parents, and sister, Marjorie DeBoer.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to all the staff at Applegate Hospice and Leslie Bean, N.P. for all their compassionate care.
