Esther M. Sheldon, Galesburg Chapel 85, of Galesburg died at 6:29 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.
She was born May 20, 1927 in Janesville, Wis. the daughter of George and Ethel Hewitt Mitchell Sr. She married Donald H. Sheldon in Rock Island, Ill. in February 1955.
She is survived by her son, William D. (Becky) Sheldon of Galesburg; her daughter, Bonnie (Terry) Hodgen of Cameron, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Rhetta, Andy and Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert Sheldon in 1957, her former husband, Donald, her special friend of 25 years Paul Reischling, her brother, George Mitchell, her a sister, Phyllis Campbell and a granddaughter Angela Sheldon on August 13, 2000.
Esther worked in the Cottage Hospital Business Office for 21 years. She graduated from Galesburg High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
