The Rev. Charles Fredric Sheldon, 78 years old, former pastor of the Olive Branch Congregational Church, Sidney St. and Missouri Ave, died at his home, 3808 Connecticut St. St. Louis, Mo. yesterday afternoon Monday, October 6, 1930 at 1:00 p.m.
The Rev. Mr. Sheldon, stagecoach messenger before his ordination as minister 40 years ago, had held pastorates at Perry, Iowa and Abingdon, Illinois. He retired as minister of the Olive Branch Congregational Church three years ago.
Charles was born in Madison Wisconsin on May 2, 1853, the son of Russell A. and Mary Ann (Doane) Sheldon.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Annie A. (Ames) Sheldon; two sons, Royal Dewitt Sheldon, and Charles Stewart Sheldon; and five daughters, Mrs. Frank (Jessie) Spaid, Mrs. Carl (Maude) Johnson, Mrs. Harold (Charity) Rapp, Miss Faith F. Sheldon and Miss Mary "Hope" Sheldon a missionary in Central America. One daughter proceeded him in death.
Remains lay in state at Ziegenhein Brothers chapel, 2623 Cherokee St., until 9 a.m. Friday Oct. 10. Funeral services will be held at the Olive Branch Church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, with burial in Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Illinois.
