Funeral services for Mural Auvil, 71 of Carthage, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Panola Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Auvil died Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Carthage.
Mrs. Minnie Mural Sheppard Auvil was born February 4, 1937 in Baytown, Texas to the marriage of Louis and Gladys Ellen Morris Sheppard. One of six children, Mural married Carl Elijan Auvil February 12, 1955 and celebrated 44 years of marriage until his death in January of 1999.She enjoyed sewing, fishing, camping, painting and being a housewife. She was very involved in her Vacation Bible School every year at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she was a faithful member. Above all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Billie Jean Elliott, and brothers, Forrest Clinton "Buddy" Sheppard and Charles Sheppard.
Her survivors include sons Carl Elijah Auvil, Jr. and wife Delores, of Gladewater, and Steven Wade and wife Amy, of Panola; daughters Pamela LaVonne Auvil, of Panola, and Ellen McCreary and husband Mike, of Panola; brother James Ray Sheppard, of Houston; sister Jo Ann McWhorter and husband Bob, of Thicket; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
