Bertha M. Bitner, 69, of Carlisle, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born April 22, 1936, in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Mervin R. Sr. and Evelyn L. (Calaman) Sheriff.
Bertha retired from the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carlisle, where she had been a seamstress. She enjoyed craft-making and sewing.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, William D. Bitner; two sons, Keith "Doug" Grimes and Tony Grimes of Carlisle; a daughter, Kimberly Bailey of Carlisle; two brothers, Mervin R. Sheriff Jr. and Charles F. Sheriff of Carlisle; a sister, Frances A. Bailey of Newville; four stepbrothers, Woodrow Sheriff, John Sheriff and Dale Sheriff, all of Carlisle, and Harry Sheriff of Boiling Springs; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Thomas Grimes, and a half-sister, Darlene L. Stough.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Daniel R. Mikesell officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
