Born April 4, 1923 [sic] in Brooklyn, New York died peacefully in his sleep on October 11, 2008 in Los Altos, CA. As in life, Mark fought his illness with bravery and pride.
He is predeceased by his loving companion of 30 years, Barbara Kane; he is survived by his 4 stepchildren, Shelley Calonica, Grace Pintler, Randy Kane and Kelly Kane, and many loving grandchildren.
Veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, successful restauranteur, and accomplished poker player, Mark led a colorful life not without adversity. After surviving a car accident that nearly took his life, Mark embarked on a career in poker that would result in his being described as "one of the best to ever play the game." Play like a champ, win like a champ, act like a champ. In life Mark did just that. He will be remembered as a generous, kind and honorable family man, who was always there for his friends and family when in need. All will sadly miss him.
The family will hold a private memorial. Friends and acquaintances are welcome to share their written remembrances however brief they may be, and would be considered a treasured keepsake for the family of Mark Sherman. Please send to [redacted for privacy]
