Roberta Sherman "Bobbie" Aggergaard

May 2, 1933 - Aug. 27, 2016

Roberta Sherman Aggergaard or "Bobbie" to family and friends, passed away after a short illness on Aug. 27 at the age of 83. Bobbie was born on May 2, 1933. She was raised in Vacaville's Mix Canyon area by her father and mother, Charles and Susie Sherman. She was the youngest daughter in her family of 12.

Though Bobbie was the "baby girl" of the family, she started working young. Her first job was at the Clark Movie Theater on Main Street at the age of 14; though she said she was 16 at the time. She had another job as a young adult working alongside her older sister Betty at the phone company. The majority of her remaining time in the workforce was spent in the payroll department at the Basic Vegetable Plant.

Bobbie followed the footsteps of her older siblings and mother in graduating from Vacaville High School with the class of '51. It was there she met her first husband, Kenny Russell. They married shortly after high school and had four beautiful children, Kenneth Floyd, David Charles, Gary Lynn, and their only daughter, Cheryl Ann. Unfortunately, Kenny passed away in 1961, and Bobbie was a young widow for eight years.

She remarried a Travis AFB airman, Keith Aggergaard, in 1969. After 40 years in Vacaville, Keith and Bobbie moved to Keith's hometown in Washington. It was in Port Angeles that the couple lived together, content with a lifestyle oriented around fishing, crabbing and hunting. For the rest of their lives with each other, Bobbie would manage their home while Keith was mostly out on the water. They loved to have guests and family over, and greeted them with home cooked, fresh meals and hospitality. Aside from her cooking, Bobbie was known for her love of crafting and decorating. Especially around the holidays when you would instantly feel the spirit of the holiday; her handmade unique touches were envied by all.

Bobbie lived a good life and was thankful for everything she had. Though she kept a smile on her face and was blessed in many ways, Bobbie most definitely did not have an easy life. She lost her mother, both husbands, all of her sons, and all but one sibling. She fought breast cancer, and two serious broken bone injuries. She persevered through many traumatic experiences and still kept her quirky sense of humor.

After the loss of Keith, Bobbie returned to her hometown of Vacaville to be with her family in 2013. To the younger generations she was known simply as "Gram." Bobbie was proud to go by "Gram" and taught all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren so much. Her family was blessed to spend her last years with her and have the strong bonds they had.

Bobbie is survived by her daughter and son in-law Cheri and Dave Hillstrom; daughter in-law and son in-law, Irma and Dick Ramos; daughter in-law, Terry Russell; sister, Pauline Caldwell; grandchildren Michelle, Jason, Jacob, Brandi, Bobbie, David, Sam, Ben and Garrett; great grandchildren, Larissa, Savanna, Ava, Davey, Parker, Josh, Zachary and Ethan.

We miss and love her and will honor her legacy forever.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
