Ernestine "Ernie" Shore Avant departed this life on Sunday January 19, 2014 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice, surrounded by her family. Born September 12, 1932 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Ernie was the daughter of the late Thad White Shore and Thelma Adams Shore. She was married to the late Oscar Wade Avant, Jr. on June 27, 1959 and moved to Wilmington in 1992. She is survived by her son Thad Wade Avant of Beijing, China and son Keith Lowell Avant and his wife, Suzanne Tara Avant and his children Daniel Woodson Avant, 22 and Stuart Cole Avant, 18 of Burgaw, NC. Ernie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wilmington, NC, the Country Club of Landfall, The Great Oaks Club, the Country Club of Linville Ridge and the Raleigh Chapter of Eastern Star. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC when it was known as Women's College of the University of North Carolina and graduated from the Grace Down Airline and Modeling School in New York, New York. She deeply loved and treasured her sons and their families and was a friend to the many who loved her for her thoughtfulness, feistiness, positive attitude, caring and genuineness. A funeral service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, February 1, 2014, at The Frank H. Kenan Chapel, 510 Arboretum Drive in Landfall with Rev. Jim Everette, Associate Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Wilmington officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC.
