Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Jeanine Showell Hansen, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the age of eighty-five.

Born November 3, 1930 in Stone, Idaho to Rollin and Effie Young Showell — the third of five children, and the only daughter.

Jeanine is the mother of six children, three of whom preceded her in death: Christian E. Hansen (Cindy Hansen, Salt Lake City), W. Jeff Hansen (JoAnn Narus, Salt Lake City), and Matthew S. Hansen; and brothers, Jesse, Ralph, and Steve Showell. She is survived by her husband, W. Eugene Hansen; and children, Susan H. Porter (T. Flint), Steven A. Hansen (Julie), and Stanton W. Hansen (Ann), all of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and brother, Sid Showell (Sharon).

As a young girl, Mom enjoyed life on the ranch with her brothers, family, and friends. She rode her horse with her brothers to the one-room schoolhouse where she began her love for education.

Mom attended Bear River High School and was recognized for academic honors. She was a great dancer and loved people. She graduated from Utah State University in Elementary Education and taught first grade for fifteen years. She was loved by her students.

Jeanine married W. Eugene Hansen on September 8, 1950 in the Idaho Falls Temple. She was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, Sunday School, and Scouts. She served with her husband in his callings and assignments: Bishop, Stake President, First Quorum of the Seventy, and Patriarch. Mom was Matron of the Salt Lake Temple while her husband served as Temple President.

The hallmarks of Mom's life were love, kindness, and service. Mom enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends, taking a loving interest in their lives. Family visits centered on gospel principles. She regularly took meals to friends and neighbors, loved entertaining, and was a gracious host.

Mom was happy traveling with family and friends, both abroad and throughout the States. She was a collector of art and other memorabilia. She built a family real estate business and taught us to work hard. Mom's car regularly transported the lawn mower, extension ladder, hedge trimmers, shovels, and even a set of bolt cutters.
