Virginia Coon, 84, went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2012. She was born the 2nd child of four to Elof Vincent and Ersie Sjogren on December 25, 1927 at the farm home in Marquette, KS. She loved the outdoors and helping her Dad on the farm. After High School graduation she entered Bethany College in Lindsborg, obtaining her teacher certificate upon completing the two year 60 hour course. She was hired as a 3rd grade teacher in Smith Center Kansas. After five years she left her teaching career to go back to the farm in Marquette in 1952. That is where she was introduced to a young man from Adams, KS; who was in the area to build bridges. She and Otis Leon Coon met and were married there in Marquette, KS on April 19th, 1954. They made their home in rural Adams, Kansas becoming the third Coon generation to raise a family there.

She helped Otis with the farming and Angus cattle while raising four children on homemade juice can bread and granola. Virginia became interested in Child Evangelism Fellowship and was trained to teach children about the love of God thru Jesus Christ in home based Good News Fellowships. Her mission work also involved teaching Sunday school where ever they attended and sending letters and Christian Tracts to people. They both completely retired from wheat and cattle when Otis Leon became an ordained pastor at the Spivey Community Church in 1993 until 1997. Virginia faithfully helped Otis during this Christian service. They traveled and had many adventures with Otis Leon's sister Mary Louise Hughes and her husband Randall traveling coast to coast and border to border during their free time. She also helped Otis Leon and son Allen for a few weeks each summer from 1997 until 2002, at Camp Salvation located near Trinidad, CO. Virginia was all about helping family.

She was preceded-in-death by her parents Elof Vincent Sjogren and Ersie Frank Sjogren. To infant siblings Wilma Louise and Vincent Carl and brother Wesley Sjogren.

She is survived by, daughter Nancy Walker (Sharon, KS), daughter Gayle Thornbro and husband Michael (Norwich, KS), son Otis Allen Coon and wife Betty (Bird City, KS), and son Frank Coon (Norwich, KS), 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
