Mrs. Ailene Smith of 2810 South _th has been notified that the body of her husband, Pvt. Franklin J Smith, who died in action in Germany in December 1944, will be sent to Lubbock for reburial.
Private services will be held at the Lubbock cemetery.
Private Smith entered service in May 1944 and was sent overseas in November. He was killed while fighting in Germany with the Fourth Division, First Army. The Purple Heart was awarded posthumously, and he was buried at Heurn (sic) Chappelle, Belgium.
The son of Mr. and Mr. I. L. Smith of Lubbock, Pvt. Smith graduated from Aspermont High school and attended John Tarleton college.
Mrs. Smith is the former Ailene Burleson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Burleson of Tuscola. She and her two children, Bette and F. J., Jr., lived at Tuscola after Private Smith entered the service.

At the time of his death he was a Private in Company I 22nd Infantry Regiment 4th Infantry Division. He was killed in action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest in an area west of Grosshau. He was originally buried at Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium.
