Daughter of Walter Milton & Meda Hallums Shockley.

Her first husband was Thomas Jackson Smith, married April 1924 in Greenville County, SC. Date of divorce unknown.

Her second husband was Clinton Jackson Burroughs.

Florence and Clinton were staying in a tourist motel in Charlotte, NC in March 1952 when there was apparently a carbon monoxide leak in their room overnight while they slept. Florence was found deceased and Clinton was injured but survived after being hospitalized.

Florence was a native and lifelong resident of Greenville, formerly employed in textile work, and was a member of Sans Souci Baptist Church.

Survived by two daughters, Mrs Max H. (Catherine) Foster and Mrs. James D. (Consuelo) Williams, both of Greenville; three grandchildren; her parents; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Joe Pearce of Greenville; a stepson, Harold Burroughs of San Francisco; and two sisters, Mrs. Jess Adams of Shelby and Mrs. Ernest Dorn of Greenville.

Funeral services: Friday, March 14, 1952, Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. A.M. Phillips, and Rev. J.N. Wrenn.
