Services were held for Mrs. Lydia Hirschinger Smith, 89, of Manson, Ia., formerly a Rock Valley resident, on October 13, 1:30 p.m. in the Larson Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in Valley View cemetery in Rock Valley.
Mrs. Lydia Hirschinger Smith was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin, on September 4, 1880. She was the daughter of Mary Klein and Jacob Hirschinger. In 1881 the parents and two daughters moved to Rock Valley.
She was married to Warren A. Smith in 1901. They were the parents of two children, Marian and Luella.
For many years they were engaged in the restaurant business until his retirement. Mr. smith died in 1921.
After his death, Mrs. Smith made her home in Milwaukee and Baraboo, Wisc., for a number of years where she was engaged in service as a housekeeper, companion, and often nurse to loved ones, aged and crippled.
After leaving Wisconsin, she made her home in Portland, Oregon, with her youngest daughter, Luella, Mrs. Jack Gilliland and family.
After the death of her daughter in '59 she moved to Manson, and has since made her home with her daughter, Marian, Mrs. F.C. Helmers and family.
Lydia Smith died Sunday, October 12, at 11. 10 a.m.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband one daughter a sister and half-brother.
She is survived by her daughter, Marian, 7 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
