Helen Agnes Smith Bullock, 92 of Navasota, formerly of Houston, died Saturday morning, March 5, 2016, at her home. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 9677 Hwy 6, in Navasota with a vigil service and parish rosary following at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church with Rev. Rodolfo "JoJo" Cal-Ortiz as the celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Stanislaus Church Cemetery in Anderson. Helen was born February 1, 2924, at home in Anderson to William and Mary Kolojacko Smith. She graduated from Anderson High School and during the WWII, she moved to Houston and worked as a welder at Hughes Tool from 1942 – 1943. After the war, she worked for Mrs. Schoals, who had a German-Jewish restaurant, before going to work at Ming Palace, where she waitressed for 16 years. She later began a long and rewarding career with Maxim's and in 1961 was named captain. Helen retired from Maxim's after 35 years of service. In her retirement she loved to cook, plant flowers and was an excellent seamstress. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Barbara Grupa, Virginia Walkoviak and Martha Maniha and a brother, R.J. "Sonny" Smith. Survivors include her sisters, Clara Walkoviak and Carolynn Katkoski of Navasota, JoAnn Borski and husband Berne of Montgomery and Frances Kowis and husband Thomas of Plantersville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
