Nancy M. Byrd, 73, of Geneseo, formerly of Galva, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 19th, at St. John's Catholic Church, Galva. Father John Burns will officiate. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Galva Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, with a rosary at 7:00. Additional visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rebuilding Together or to an Education Fund for her grandchildren.
The former Nancy Mary Smith was born November 25, 1932 in Moline, the daughter of Cleo A. and Augusta M. Bleyaert Smith. She was educated in the Coal Valley area and attended Coal Valley High School. Her marriage to Billie K. Byrd took place on April 18, 1952 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan. They were married 26 wonderful years, until he lost his battle to cancer on July 13, 1979.
Nancy was employed as a secretary/record keeper for Bridgeway Mental Health for twenty years. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Cambridge, and its Altar and Rosary Society. Her hobby was bird watching, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Also special to her heart was her dog Buttons.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brian Shore, Geneseo, two sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus and Lori Byrd, Altona, and Michael and Lisa Byrd, Galva. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Robert Shore, Elizabeth Shore, James Byrd, Ian Byrd, and a brother, James F. Smith, Moline.
In addition to her beloved husband and her parents, two brothers, Father Robert J. Smith and Donald J. Smith, and a sister, Mary Ann Smith, preceded her in death
