Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25 at Williamsfield Methodist Church. Rev. Doug Johnson, a great-nephew, will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rux Funeral Home, Williamsfield. Burial will be in Williamsfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Williamsfield Methodist Church or to Williamsfield Library.
Betty was born Oct. 9, 1917, near Williamsfield, daughter of Lloyd and Neva (Nelson) Smith. She married Hugh A. Doubet on Sept. 23, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dean; one grandson, Ben; and one sister, Anna Jean Dustin. She is survived by sons, Dave (Pat) Doubet and Don (Judy) Doubet, both of Williamsfield, daughter-in-law, Elaine Doubet of Williamsfield; daughter, Debbie Schwarz of Pekin; brother, Robert Smith of Williamsfield; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Betty attended Centennial Grade School and graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1934. She then attended Western Illinois Teachers College and received her teachers certificate. She taught country school in the Bert and Nightengale Country Schools. She was a member of Williamsfield Methodist Church, Home Culture Club, a charter member of the Prairie Quilters Club and charter member and board member of the Williamsfield Library Board. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, crafts and her family.
