Doris J. Bernier, Galesburg Chapel
81, #3 Fairway Drive, Monmouth, formerly of 2762 Montague Drive, Galesburg, died on January 8, 2009 at 10:25 PM in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born October 1, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas to Etta Elizabeth Smith. She married Paul R. Bernier on May 12, 1945. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1994.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Susan Crawford (Brian) of Monmouth, Martie Uden (Lanny) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Terry Herschell (Bob) of Lawrence, Kansas, 1 son, Peter Bernier (Julie) of Verbena, Alabama, 3 sisters, Maydell Cole of Galesburg, Edell Richards of Odessa, Texas, and Marci Clark of Seguin, Texas, and a sister-in-law, Fernande Bernier of Dover, New Hampshire.
The loves of her life were her 10 grandchildren, Stacey, Kendall, Jeffrey, Jayme, Jennifer, Mandy, Meredith, Travis, Adam, and Colby, and her 10 great grandchildren.
Doris grew up in San Antonio, Texas, married Paul Bernier, and moved to Gorham, New Hampshire. They moved to Galesburg in 1960. She retired as a supervisor of the kitchens at The Kensington, Seminary Manor, and Seminary Estates after many years of loyal service.
Doris was a devoted mother, a loving and caring grandmother and great grandmother, and a dear and loyal friend. She enjoyed most of all interacting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she loved going to basketball games with her friends.
She will be dearly missed by her loved ones. We are sure she is busy organizing and cooking meals for all the heavenly angels as she did for all her earthly angels. We will miss you Mom.
Memorials may be made to Warren Achievement Center, Monmouth, Illinois.
Services will be 1:30 PM Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Ira DeSpain, Rev. Thomas Ek, and Rev. David Seitz will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
