Born January 7, 1929 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Norman T. and Kattie (Patterson) Ditch.
She and her first husband, the late Luther T. Daywalt, were married on August 20, 1948 in Hagerstown. Mr. Daywalt died on January 13, 1978. She married her second husband, James M. Stapleton, on March 31, 1995.
In her early life, Mrs. Stapleton worked at Samuel Dixon State Hospital in the house keeping department. She later worked as a laborer at Duffy and Mott Canning Company, Aspen, PA.
She was a member of Antrim Faith Baptist Church, Waynesboro and enjoyed cutting wood, working outside, cooking, baking, and going out to eat.
In addition to her second husband, she is survived by five children, Luther N. Daywalt of Duncannon, PA, Katherine Naugle of Rouzerville, Cindy Young of Waynesboro, Sandy Daywalt of Chambersburg, and Joseph Daywalt of Fayetteville; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eva Shockey, Lucy Sprenkle, and Claire Nunn, all of Waynesboro; two brothers, Richard Ditch and Lee Ditch, both of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Paul E. Daywalt and Robert L. Daywalt; one grandson, Brad R. Daywalt; and five brothers, Kenneth Ditch, Walter Ditch, Clyde Ditch, Joseph Ditch, and Melvin "Pete" Ditch.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 15, 2017 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Herb Busick officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, PA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday evening, in the funeral home.
