Born in Davenport, Iowa, on July 14, 1926, she was the daughter of Dawson and Laura Hutsell Smith. A resident of this area since early childhood, JoAnn was educated in Stockbridge Valley schools.
She was employed, prior her retirement, with the Oneida City Schools at the Oneida Senior High School and previously had been employed as a hairdresser. JoAnn was a member of Cochran Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her two daughters, Bonnie and her husband, Peter Rinaldo, of Oneida and Debra Staudt of Vernon; her two sons, Michael S. Staudt of Priest River, Idaho and Charles J. Staudt of San Antonio, Texas; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Christine Staudt, on April 8, 2008; her sister, Roma Ristow; and her four brothers, Carroll Smith, Basil Smith, Courtland Smith and Scott Smith.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Friday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, with Pastor Peg Ward officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 1-3 p.m., Friday, prior to the funeral service.
