Emma Marie Stelling was born at Tennewurth by Marne Suderditmanchen, Holstein, Germany to Christopher "Christof" and Margretha Catherine (Vohs/Voss)Stelling. She was one of seven children born to her parents. On May 4, 1884, her parents brought the young family to the United states and they first settled in the Norfolk, Nebraska area. Her father has been a solider in Germany but in America he worked on the railroad and later was a farmer. They lived first near Grand Island, Nebraska later moving to Hooper, Nebraska. Then the Stelling family moved to Sawyer Co., Wisconsin area and settled near Lenroot district. Emma Stelling met James Wilhelm Calson while living in Nebraska and they married July 3, 1891, in Orchard, Antelope Co., Nebraska. While in Nebraska, James and Emma had three children born to their union; Pearl Della Margretha Dortha Carlson who married Walter Ratcliff McFarland, she later married a Mr. Binger; Sophia Marie Louise Carlson died as a 6 year old child buried in Phipps Cem in Wisconsin; and Carl Wilhelm Carlson married Estelle Gill. Emma and James had moved and settled near her parents in Sawyer Co., Wisconsin but later [date unknown] they moved to California where they lived out the remainder of their lives. Emma and James had three grandchildren who were Neil R. McFarland and Elaine and Delta Carlson.
