Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in Calexico for Bernice Black, 80, of Calexico, who died Tuesday in her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Hems Bros. chapel in Calexico. The Rev. Eric Rice of Sts. Peter & Paul Episcopal Church of El Centro will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Mrs. Black was born May 8, 1921, in Runge, Texas.

She married James Black in Yuma and worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She was last employed by Blackman Plumbing.

Mrs. Black was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Calexico.

She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years and served on its board of directors for 19 years. She was awarded the society's lifetime membership and was active in all the group's fund raisers, according to family.

Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband, James Black, in 1998; and sisters Marjorie Brakka in 1987 and Alla Blanche Collins in 2000.

Survivors include her sister, Jo Collins of Riverside; nephews, Tim Collins of Riverside, Gary Collins of Simi Valley and Jerry Collins of Phoenix; and nieces, Bernice Shreeve, Patricia Rolls, Sandra Peck and Cathy Collins, all of San Diego.
