Peter's first wife was Helen MacKinnon. Helen died about 1770 in Scotland, before Peter, his second wife Sarah Hamilton and his children came to the Island. Helen's grandfather was John Dubh MacKinnon, 29th Chief of MacKinnon. Her parents were John MacKinnon and Margaret MacLeod. John predeceased his father so never became Chief of MacKinnon. Helen was the mother of John, Charles, Margaret, Annabella, Penelope, Flora and Robert. Sarah was the mother of James, Ralph, Mary Dundas Bishop, and Peter Jr.
