Enlisted, May 7, 1917, in Troop A, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.

He attended, OTC, at Fort Oglethorpe, GA, and commissioned Captain, Field Artillery, November 27, 1917. He served in the 318th Field Artillery Regiment, 81st Division and 140th Field Artillery Regiment. He was assigned during the war to Camp Jackson, SC; Camp Beauregard, LA and Lakehurst, NJ.

He was discharged from the service, June 16, 1919.

World War 2, entered service, April 1, 1942, from Philadelphia , PA and assigned to Fort Bragg, NC. He went overseas, April 5, 1944, and served as a battalion command in both France & Germany. He was awarded the legion of Merit and Bronze Star for his service.

He was discharged, as a Colonel, from the service, October 3, 1945, at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA.
