Ollie D. Avant, born September 2, 1923, passed away April 23, 2009. She was the youngest child of the late Amy and Frank Sunday, Sr.
Ollie accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Sunlight Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing with the Senior Choir. She was a dedicated and faithful member for over 7 decades. In 2004, she united with Unity in the Family Ministry, where her two sons serve as Pastors. In 1946, Ollie united in marriage with Lee Mason Avant, Sr. They remained faithful to each other until his death. Their loving union was blessed with 5 children, one who preceded her in death, Herbert DeWight. Ollie was retired from Escambia County Civil Service as a seamstress at University Hospital.
Ollie is survived by her devoted children, Lee Mason, Calvin, Norma Jeane, and Janet Faye; one sister, Margarete Card; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., at New Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Dempsey Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Public viewing will be held noon until 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Joe Morris & Son Funeral Home.
