Sarah Jane "Sallie" (Taylor) Johnston was born on November 5, 1879 in Tennessee, the daughter of James Spears Taylor (1844–1908) and Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Barnes) Taylor (1861–1919).
She was married to Joseph Farmer Johnston (1878–1968), and he was the son of James Thed Johnston (1848–1934) and Obedience Elisabeth (Tidwell) Johnston (1846–1918).
Living at 3013 Vanderbilt Place in Nashville, Sallie was 82 years old and married when she had a stroke some weeks previously and died of pneumonia at home on October 16, 1962. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
