Mary Ann (Taylor) Bosworth had a tragic life - one can only hope that it was filled with joy as well. Mary Ann is the daughter of Soloman Taylor and his wife Esther (who I believe is the dau. of Nathaniel Scudder but still need more evidence).

Her birth year varies from census to census and it is either 1829 or 1830. Her first marriage was to Mathew Lambert who she married December 22, 1846, in Davidson Co. TN. They had a daughter named Endora (Mattie) who was born about 1848-1849. Mathew died in 1848 and Mary Ann later married Andrew J. Bosworth on Dec. 19, 1851, in Davidson Co. TN. They had four children: Laura, Mary Ellen, James Harvey, and Cora L.

Andrew J. Bosworth worked in the family business as a ropemaker but must have been affected by the Civil War when the rope factory was burned. He then turned to carpentry to support the family but its unlikely that he was successful. Mary Ann found herself a widow again when Andrew died in 1882. Ten years later when she died, she was living in poverty.

Her daughter Mattie was also widowed twice by this time and living in the Davidson County Asylum for the Poor. Daughter Laura (Bosworth) Badacour had died in childbirth in 1872 and is buried with her baby who also died. Daughter Mary Ellen Bosworth had divorced her first husband (Milton Ryman) and married a man old enough to be her father, William Hudnall. Son James Harvey Bosworth died in 1890. Not much is known about her daughter Cora L. Bosworth who married William E. Whitworth.

When Mary Ann died in 1892, she had been widowed twice and given birth to four daughters and one son. At least two of her five adult children were dead. Of her three remaining daughters, Mattie was living in poverty and its unknown what became Cora other than her marriage in 1882; daughter Mary Ellen (Bosworth) Ryman Hudnall was living nearby. Mary Ann's grave is in the indigent section of the cemetery and it is unmarked. Mary Ann was a mother and a grandmother and I am saddened to know that her family was unable to provide her a home in her final years. I don't know the full circumstances of this situation so it is unfair for me to judge them.

Mary Ann (Taylor) Lambert Bosworth is my g-g-grandmother. I'd love to learn more about her life.

(Thank you, Ron, for creating Mary Ann's memorial and for allowing me to manage it.)
