At the time of Willadean's birth, Oklahoma was not a state and Claremore was part of the Cherokee Nation. The Taylor family had moved from near Fayetteville, Washington Co, Arkansas from the Steele Community. By 1910, John Taylor had moved the family to Cass Co, Indiana and by 1920 to Detroit, Michigan. Willadean likely married Harald D. Kadz in Wayne Co, MI. Harald was already living there in 1917 according to his WWI Draft Registration Card. In 1920, Willadean and Harald lived in her parent's home at Highland Park, Wayne Co, MI.. In 1930, the US Census for Los Angels Co, CA listed them in Glendale. Willadean and Harald would raise their son and daughter there. Willadean was the youngest of seven siblings.
Her maternal grandfather, Thomas L. Barnett, was killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Prairie Grove, Washington Co, Arkansas on 07 Dec 1862 and was buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Fayetteville, Arkansas. That left her maternal grandmother, Susan E. (Mount) Barnett to raise Nancy and her older sister, Tennessee Barnett. Nancy and her husband John Taylor, lived and worked on the Barnett farm at Steele for a few years before moving to Oklahoma.
