When she was about 1-1/2 years old, Edna was stricken with tuberculosis of the bone and was crippled. At the age of 3, doctors operated to remove the diseased bone in her hip and carved out a new hip socket.

Her father decided to become an Osteopathic Physician so that he could help his daughter.
After being bedridden and wheelchair-bound for some time, she learned to walk again with crutches and canes. She attended school when she could through the sixth grade, but after the taunting of other children protested, "I won't go to school on crutches." She had an unquenchable thirst for reading and education was informally continued at home.

In 1910, she moved with her parents and three younger siblings to Ringgold County, Iowa. Finally in 1915, she submitted to a knee operation and on Dec. 25, 1917, was able to "walk down the aisle" when she married Jesse Marion Anderson, who courted her in a horse-drawn buggy. They shared three children, several grandchildren, and 52 years of happy married life before his death in 1969. Edna also outlived all her siblings and died three months shy of her 102nd birthday.

Mother of Marion Christinia, Thelma Jean, and Max Tennant; Sister of Carl Frederick, Maurice Edward, and Victoria Gladys (Tennant) Prentis.
