Elizabeth (Thayer) Andrews, 85, a life-long resident of Bellingham, died Thursday, December 19, 2013. She was the beloved wife for 53 years of David E. Andrews who passed in 2010. Born in Milford, MA on February 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Ruel and Marion (Patrick) Thayer. Her brother, Vincent, passed on in 1996. Elizabeth "Betty" was raised and lived in Bellingham her entire life. A graduate of Bellingham High School class of 1946 as its Valedictorian, Betty went on to Framingham State Teacher's College and gained a BS in Education majoring in Vocational Household Arts. After several teaching positions at Bourne High School and Bridgewater High School, Betty moved to Northampton, MA as a county extension agent. There she had a weekly TV show on WWLP in Springfield. Married on January 20, 1957 in the First Baptist Church of Bellingham, Betty and Dave settled just down the street from where she grew up. Following in her mom's footsteps as organist at the First Baptist Church, she also was the Church's pianist for a number of years. The Thayer Family has a rich history locally including the Center of town's original horse barns, L.F. Thayer and Son's store, original post office, and the Town Common (formerly their home and farm). Upon retirement, Betty worked for the Zoning Board of Appeals and was a frequent writer for the Crimpville Comments. She was also an active member of the Bellingham Historical Commission. An avid seamstress, knitter, voracious reader, first class homemaker, substitute teacher in the Bellingham School System and the best mom to her 4 kids, Betty's greatest attribute was her smile and happy outlook on life. She is survived by her four children: Deborah and her husband, Scott Pace of Mount Belvieu, TX; Tracy Andrews of Cornwall, NY; Russel and his wife, Heather (Fraser) Andrews of Blackstone, MA; Eric and his wife, Erin (Allard), of Douglas, MA; her four grandchildren; Ashley Nunez, Nicole and Brett Andrews and David Russell. Devoted to her family, she will be greatly missed. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 22 at 12 noon – 3 pm at CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 South Main Street (Rte 126), Bellingham. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23 at 2 pm at The First Baptist Church, 1172 So. Main St., Bellingham, MA. Interment at the Union Cemetery, Mechanic St., Bellingham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Donations in her memory may be sent to the First Baptist Church, 1172 So. Main St., Bellingham, MA 02019.
