Bernice E Bea (Delaney) Thayer ,93, long time Franklin resident and community activist, died Thursday March 26, 2009 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following an extended period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Thayer Sr., who died in 1981.
Born in Walpole, March 24, 1916 a daughter of the late Timothy E., and Catherine (Sullivan) Delaney, she was a 1934 graduate of Walpole High School, and had lived in Franklin since 1947.

Until her retirement, Mrs. Thayer worked as an administrative secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Dept. of Corrections at Norfolk State Prison. She was the former chair and long time member of the Franklin Democratic Town Committee, and was a former Registrar of Voters in Franklin. She also assisted at the polls election day and was a member of the original Charter Commission, and served on the Town Bicentennial Committee in 1978. She was the Grand Marshal for the 4th of July parade some years ago, and was a communicant of St. Marys Church.

She is survived by four sons: Robert E. Jr and his wife Debra of Medway, William E. and his wife Joanne of Woonsocket, Gerald F. retired Franklin police officer and his wife Laurie, and Brian J. and his fiancee Amy of Franklin. One brother James H. Delaney of Walpole, and her loving six grandchildren Kara, Corrie, Robert III, Anne, Paul and Casey, 2 stepgrandchildren Tiffany and Richard Fernandes, and 1 step great granddaughter Isabella Fernandes.

She was the sister of the late Irene, Edward, Leo, George, Marjorie, Delaney and Catherine Golden.

Faith in God was the foundation of Bernices bright smile is a lasting memory to all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Monday at 8:15 am from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, 1 Church Sq., Franklin at 9 am. Interment at St. Marys Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2-6 pm.
