Ada was the daughter of Francis Washington Thomas and Mercy Haley. She grew up in Montgomery County and Delaware County, Pennsylvania. She married George Osbourne Dean around 1888 and they had one son, Buel. Her husband died ten years after they were married, leaving a young widow and a ten year old son.

About 1911, Ada and her married son, removed to Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Ada departed this life on May 31, 1945.
