Santo R. Toto, 89, of Clearfield died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Penn Highlands Clearfield Hospital.

He was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Messina, Italy, a son of the late Samuel and Carmella (Giuffre) Toto.

At the age of three, he came to America with his mother and sister, the late Josephine Pasquariello.

Mr. Toto was employed at Harbison Walker for 38 years until July of 1984 when the plant closed. He also worked for Kurtz Bros. part-time for five years.

Mr. Toto will be remembered for his authentic Italian cooking and ability to make delicious sausage. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his loving family.

He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Clearfield Sons and Daughters of Italy and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Clearfield.

He is survived by his wife, Angeline (Oreka) Toto, to whom he was wed Sept. 15, 1951 in Weedville; four children, Samuel Toto and his wife, Margaret, Carmella Taylor and her husband, Timothy and Christine Gardner and her husband, Richard, all of Clearfield, and Cynthia Romansky and her husband, Robert of Australia; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Young of Clearfield; and two brothers, James Toto and his wife, Honey of State College and John Toto and his wife, Anna Marie of Clearfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandora Young and Josephine Pasquariello.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Fr. Brandon Kleckner as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.

At the funeral home Friday, the Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. and a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 5:45 p.m.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield.
