David S. Vail Sr.

David Scott Vail Sr. died Aug. 8, 1999, in Vancouver. He was 57.

Born Nov. 6, 1941, in Vancouver, he retired from James River last year after 35 years of service. he worked at the mill fire department and volunteered at the Washougal Fire Department. He enjoyed golf, traveling and crossword puzzles. He was a member of the 25 and 35 Year Club and the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers.

He is survived by his wife, Kaylene of Washougal; sons, David S. Vail Jr. of Olympia and Patrick Vail of Portland; daughter, Barbara Harper of San Diego, Calif.; step-sons, Ward Knable of Washougal and Dan Hubbard of Denver, Colo.; step-daughter, Shelly Beaver of Washougal; sisters, Barbara Vail of Bend, Ore., Dorothy Holbrook of Vancouver, Leasta Skuzeski of Sandy, Ore., Linda Brummett of Bend, Ore. and Kathleen Fox of Battle Ground, Wash.; brothers, Burleigh Vail of Vancouver and Ralph Vail of Sante Fe, N.M.; and 14 grandchildren.

A grave-side service was held at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery Tuesday, Aug 10 at 2 p.m. A celebration of his life immediately followed the service. Memorials can be sent to Hospice Southwest at P.O. Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668 or the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 371, Vancouver, WA 98666.
