Phyllis was born in San Luis Obispo, California on May 6, 1939, the daughter of Pauline Evelyn (Lambeth) Watson, and Dale Charles Vanderbilt.
Phyllis attended the Ellsworth schools and graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, Kansas. She then attended and graduated Magna Cum Laud with a degree in accounting and business from McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas.
She was a member of Missouri Synod Lutheran Church of Ellsworth, Kansas
Phyllis was a homemaker and worked as a accountant for several private businesses including Hedlund Electric in McPherson and Northview in Newton, Kansas and worked in the catalog department for J.C. Penney. She retired in 1996.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard Daniel Banta on November 29, 1957 at McPherson, Kansas.
Surviving family members include her loving and devoted husband of over fifty-five years, Richard Banta, of McPherson, Kansas; her mother Pauline E. Watson, of Salina, Kansas; her brother Charles Vanderbilt and his wife Angela Kay, of Brookville, Kansas; her sister Rosalie Harris, of Salina, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Dale Vanderbilt, a son, Terry Wayne Banta; and a brother, Jimmie C. Vanderbilt.
Graveside service will be held at the Pleasantview Cemetery, Glendale, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28th, with Chaplin Chris Craft officiating. The casket will be closed
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McPherson County Humane Society or in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home, 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
