Marlene A. Abramson, 74, a resident of Rosewood Care Center, Moline, and formerly of Rock Island, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 1 p.m. until service time Thursday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Marlene Vanderbilt was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Camanche, Iowa, a daughter of Earl and Irma Andrews Vanderbilt. She married Charles Abramson on May 2, 1970, in Rock Island. He died Sept. 24, 2001.

She retired from Augustana College, where she worked in the business administration and accounting office. Marlene previously was the secretary at Immanuel Lutheran School, Rock Island. In early years, she worked at International Harvester Corp. Farmall Works, Rock Island, where she met her late husband, Chuck.

Marlene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island, and the Rock Island Woman's Club.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Andrea Abramson, Cypress, Texas; sister, Beverly Nicholson, Rock Island; and nieces, Suzy Schindler, Davenport, and Gayle Each, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; and niece, Dee Nicholson.
