Carol A. (Vespasian) Greiner, 72, of 17 Berkshire Drive, Farmington, entered into eternal rest to reunite with her husband, Donald, on Sunday (January 17, 2010).

Carol was born in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Jeswald) Vespasian and sister to the late Frank Vespasian.

She graduated from Leetonia High School in 1955 and married Don, her high school sweetheart, in 1959.

While Don's military career took them far and wide they both loved their hometowns in Ohio (Leetonia and Columbiana) and returned home often to stay connected to the towns and to dear friends and family.

After settling in Farmington in 1969, Carol managed Don's dental practice, Pediatric Dentistry in New Britain for over twenty years. She loved to read, be with her bridge group, her tennis group and attend her "business luncheons" at Nordstrom's. Carol loved a good party and her enthusiastic personality far exceeded her 4' 10" frame! She was a world traveler and sought adventure at every turn from kissing the Blarney Stone to celebrating her 70th Birthday by rafting the rapids and camping for a week on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.

Her greatest adventure and first love was spending time with her grandchildren Anthony and Savanah. She avidly attended and cheered the loudest at her sons' and grandchildren's sports events and school activities. But she also treasured nurturing, sharing traditions and enjoying every quiet moment with her family. Carol was a faithful communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Unionville.

Carol is survived and will be dearly missed by, her two sons, David Greiner of Plainville and Scott D. Greiner and his wife Theresa of Unionville and her two precious grandchildren Anthony and Savanah. Carol considered her many close and dear friends extended family. She embraced and touched the lives of everyone she met.

Her children's and grandchildren's friends loved to claim her as their own "surrogate" mother and Nana as her generous, open heart and welcoming nature was an example to which everyone aspired. Her home (Camp Greiner) was a gathering place for respite and celebration. Carol's sense of adventure, humor and feisty spirit will endure through her family and the multitude of treasured memories and traditions she was central in creating.

Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. from the New Britain Memorial & Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 145 Main Street, Unionville.
