Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Houska, 73, were held in St. Mary's church Monday morning, Dec. 11, at 9:30 o'clock, with Rev. Joseph Weihl officiating. Ms. Houska passed away at her home here Friday at 5 a. m. after a brief illness. Mary Victoria Houska, was born April 24, 1866 in the village of Herman, Bohemia. She came to America when she was nine years of age with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Victoria, and settled at Cox Creek in Clayton county, Iowa. She was married to John Houska, Jan 27, 1895, at Strawberry Point. With the exception of nine years spent in Bohemia she spent her entire life in this vicinity. She was a loving mother and dear to all who knew her. She is survived by three sons, Peter of Lamont, Jake of Bettendorf and Albert of Viola; one sister Mrs. Amie Aldrich of Manchester, and one brother, Frank Victoria, of Jewelsburg, Colo. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, two sisters and four brothers. Casket bearers were Joseph Yonda, Josehp Foffel, Thos. Vanek, Joseph Wintakger, Almoe and Alfred Ovel. Burial was made in St. Albert's cemetery three miles east of Lamont.
