Edward Walkush Sr., 95, Hatley, died on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at his home under the care of his family and AseraCare Hospice. He was born on May 13, 1921 in the town of Bevent, Marathon County, the son of the late Alex and Martha (Davidowski) Walkush.On April 26, 1941, Edward was united in marriage to Frances Filtz in Wausau. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2013. Edward farmed and worked with his dad building homes and also logged with Joe Wanta for many years. He drove semi for the former, JH Nowinsky, Marathon Corporation and also American Can. He received the Million Mile award and was a member of the Teamsters Local 446. Edward also owned and operated Eddie's Cabinet Shop and Hatley Construction building 23 homes with his son Edward Jr. He was an active member of St. Florian's Catholic Church, Hatley and was the caretaker of the church cemetery, opening many graves throughout the years, retiring at age 90.Survivors include three children, Edward Walkush Jr., Mary Ann (Jerry) Popp, all of Hatley and Deborah (Brian) Jankowski, Milwaukee; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; his very special friend, Marcella Kasper; sisters, Elsie Krukowski, Mosinee and Delphine Woytasik, Rosholt and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, parents; a son, David; great-granddaughter, Mariah Rickman; daughter-in-law, Mary Walkush and sister, Lillie Schuttenberg.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12NOON on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at St. Florian's Catholic Church, Hatley. Fr. Gregory Bohren will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
