WILBRAHAM - Winifred C. (Wallace) Rice, 87, of Wilbraham, died Thursday June 24, 2004 in Life Care Center, Wilbraham surrounded by her family. Winifred was co-owner for 58 years with her husband, of Rice Fruit Farm on Main Street Wilbraham. Born in Ludlow on July 27, 1916, daughter of the late William N. and Carrie (Childs) Wallace, she was a lifelong resident of Wilbraham. She graduated from Classical High School and received her teaching degree from Westfield State Teachers College in 1937. Winifred was a lifelong member of the Wilbraham United Church, church bell ringer, a member of the church's Women's Club, and the Wilbraham South End Neighborhood Club. Winifield is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jesse L. Rice; her son, Wayne N. Rice and his wife Tracy (Rhodes) Rice of Wilbraham; her daughter, Lucille A. Gebeau and her husband Ted of Crystal Lake, IL; 2 brothers, William Wallace of Wilbraham and Theodore Wallace of Camillus, NY; a sister, Edith French of Sheffield, MA; her grandchildren, Kim Cullison, Kevin Gebeau, Amy Rice, and Sherry Smorynski; her great grandchildren, Kyra Miller, and Taylor Cullison. A memorial service will be held at Wilbraham United Church at a later date to be announced. Burial in Adams Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wilbraham Nature and Cultural Center P.O. Box 874 Wilbraham, MA 01095. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sampson Family Chapels.
