Dorothy M. Bailey, 96, of Sanford, died on October 1, 2017 at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born on March 15, 1921 to Albion and Mary (O’Connell) Wallace in Boston. She grew up and attended schools in Dorchester, MA.

In 1942 she married Paul Bailey and together they raised 5 children.

Dorothy was a proud veteran of the Army, Army Auxillary, and Women’s Army Corps. She was also trained to be a Piper Cub Pilot.

Her husband was also a military man and she was able to accompany him all over the country and Europe during the Korean Conflict and World War II.

Some of the things she enjoyed were camping, cooking, playing Bingo, square dancing, and especially raising her family.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 36 years, who passed away in 1978, her siblings, and her son Paul Bailey who was a Lieutenant Colonel who passed away due to Agent Orange while serving in the military.

Survivors include three sons, William J. Bailey, of Grand Junction, CO, Thomas C. Bailey, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and David L. Bailey and his wife Patricia Aker-Bailey, of Mechanicsburg, PA, a daughter, Mary Ann Sousa and her husband Robert of Sanford, and grandchildren, Laura LaValle, Heather Parker, Carey Meyers, Jesse Bailey, Paula Rainey, Daniel Putnam, Amanda Sousa, and several great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 5, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 6, at Holy Family Church, 30 Grafton St. in Lowell MA. Burial will be held at Foxhill Cemetery, Billerica MA.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider, the Pavillion at Southern Maine Health Care Elder Care Services, 35 July St. Sanford, ME 04073.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
