Jeannine Walters Alvis, 88, of Pine Bluff, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Trinity Village Medical Center.

Mrs. Alvis was born January 27, 1929, in Pine Bluff, to Ernest S. and Moree Miller Walters. She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High in 1947. She also attended Henderson State University.

Jeannine married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Lee Alvis, Jr. on July 9 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee, and they would remain together for 63 years.

Mrs. Alvis worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in the Department of Army Civilians in Quality Assurance and Resource Management. In her tenure, she received many awards of recognition including the Department of the Army Certificate of Appreciation for Patriotic Civilian Service.

Mrs. Alvis was renowned for her charity work. She was on the chair for the Port O’Call Toadmistress Club, serving as president in 1973 and was very active in United Way, serving as the first Woman President in the 1981. She remained charitable until her passing.

Mrs. Alvis was baptized at an early age and was a lifelong member of First Baptist church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Jeannine was known for her creative handiwork, especially sewing, wonderful cooking and gardening. She treasured her family and and friends.

Mrs. Alvis leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, Michael Alvis Jr, Matthew Alvis, Heather Alvis, Melodi Alvis, Chris Alvis, Amber Alvis, Taylor Alvis, Shannon Phillips, and Cheyenne Alvis.

Mrs. Alvis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard, and her two sons, Michael and Terry.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 12, 2017, 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Ken Thornton officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
