Obituary:

Marie R. (Bailey) Marshall, 92 of Port Huron, passed away on Thursday, April 04, 2013 following a short illness. She was born to George and Mary Watson on December 18, 1920 in Port Huron, attended the St. Stephens schools, and graduated from St. Stephen's High School in 1939.

While always working a steady job, Marie raised seven children as a single parent. She had a strong work ethic and was a faithful employee at Sears, Roebuck Co. in Port Huron for over 20 years, retiring in the early 1980s. After the last child left home she married Barry Marshall from Canada and lived there until his passing in 1999. She wintered in McAllen, TX for many years.

Marie was a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, participating in bible study and church camp. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, golf, music, and dancing. At one time she was an Arthur Murray dance instructor and she also was an exercise instructor in McAllen.

Marie was a woman of great faith and "class." She was very conscientious of appearance, and style, and she continued with her daily makeup, weekly hair appointment, and fashion styles of the seasons. She loved to play cards with her sisters and was known throughout her life as the world's best biscuit maker. She was also known for her $10.00 birthday cards for everyone, and producing hand knitted, new born baby sweater sets for all of her grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her seven children, Jerry (Judy) Bailey of Smiths Creek, Marlene Ross of McAllen, TX, Kay (Ken) Johnson, John T. (Fran) Bailey, Ruth Scheib, and Sharon (Don) Woolley, all of Port Huron, and Bob (Virginia "GiGi") Bailey of Kimball; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; her sister, Doris Hyde of Emmett; two brothers, Ken (Audrey) Watson and Al (Sue) Watson, both of Fort Gratiot; and several nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Ross B. Bailey and T. Barry Marshall, two grandchildren, Rosanne Motte and Nathan Collinge, four brothers, Thomas, Donald "D.J.", Jack, and Gerard Watson, and a sister, Ruth Hyde.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. preceded by a Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation at the church will begin at 10:15 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Brian Cokonougher will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
